Admin Group's Warning!

Post by marilyn morning » Sat Mar 10, 2007 5:01 am

WARNING MESSAGE TO THE MEMBERS OF TALKINGSCOT FROM THE ADMIN GROUP.

AS WITH ANY WEBSITE ON THE WWW, FROM TIME TO TIME, WE HAVE THE DISPLEASURE OF "UNWELCOME MEMBERS" JOINING OUR SITE!

WE THEREFORE ADVISE YOU TO READ THE FOLLOWING ADVICE:

Never ever click on a link that sounds "too good to be true", or appears in any way doubtful given the context of the post, particularly in a case, where a member only joined TS. Any link you see anywhere on the web that you are unsure of, err on the safe side and don't trust it. There are so many of these types out there trying to plant these trojans in the PCs of many people.

TalkingScot Administration Group

The posts in question that led to this repeat post relate to a new member - Abaeormenlem28 - who earlier today made four posts containing links to apparant porn websites.

One member, by inadvertantly clicking on one the links, has had their PC infected by a virus.

That may or may not have been the purpose of these posts, - it is well known that porn sites are often themselves infected with viruses, trojans and worms, - the operators of the porn websites couldn't care less

IF IN DOUBT DON'T CLICK ON A LINK!!!

The AdminGroup and Moderators will always act as quickly as possible to quarantine and delete questionable posts. Among us we have reasonable time zone coverage, and normally catch these numpties quickly.

Hi Marilyn,

I just sent you an email regarding posts made by 'FATTII" that I see were quickly removed. I stupidly clicked on that link before realizing I shouldn't have and because the site was taking too long to open, I didn't see the content.

Question is...do I have to worry about any bugs that you know about?

This is also to say a BIG THANK YOU to you and all concerned with keeping Talking Scot a safe place to visit.

Regards,
Anne

Hello Anne,

I just read your e-mail (sorry I've was tied up with the above issue) This would be a good opportunity to remind our members to contact any AG or Moderator of TS, when you notice some odd links being posted on the board.

To answer your question Anne, I'm not sure? But you must be using virus protection on you PC? Maybe it would be a good idea to run a virus scan ASAP? Do you use any "Spyware" software? If not maybe do a google for a free download for "Spyware Doctor" or Ad-Aware? I normally run these scans every few days.

Regards
Marilyn

Unfortunately, I just replaced my Norton Works with the free version of AVG last week and don't know if that only covers emails coming in. I get confused with what I have and don't have so will investigate and hopefully don't have any bugs. Many thanks again.

Anne

Hi Anne,

If you're worried about your incoming mail, just don't open any that you're unsure of who the sender is.

Regards
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
If you're worried about your incoming mail, just don't open any that you're unsure of who the sender is.
Good advice, thanks! I'm actually not too worried about incoming emails since AVG seems to have a message with every email saying it's "free from any virus", and I can see it without opening up the email...it's all the other things on the computer I don't know much about. Anyway, I took your advice and downloaded spyware (stuck with AVG for now) and ran a check...came up with 44 medium risk "cookie" files that I deleted, so I feel better now. Many thanks again.

Regards,
Anne

Hi Anne,

Oh this is great news for you and your computer! Plus its a great reminder for anyone not using spyware to reconsider their decision.

Now all you need to do is run this scan as many times a day, as your heart desires.

Regards
Marilyn
