Just want to thank you Chris for sharing this freebie with me - have found some info on my family during the crofter's dispute on Skye even down to how much my great grandfather paid in rent and how much in arrears he was.

Like others I have been madly reading and downloading - my family can't quite understand why I am reading papers from the 1800's when there are perfectly good ones on the coffee table.

If you're running out of ways to search, try entering Miss, Mrs. or Mr. in front of a surname--no forename. I was able to pull two more Clerihew listings out of the woods that way. Unfortunately, they weren't from my branch, but I had missed them the first 20 or so times that I searched! :D

I cannot recommend this source too much, thank you Chris for posting it. One does unfortunately get hooked - with the clock ticking.

I found lots about various ships and captains that I have been curious about, not however all so positive..............

Two cases of captains taken to court for insufficiently victualling their ships, or refusing to pay agreed wages. Fortunately my "man" was only the mate then, but later when a captain, did manage to park his barque involuntarily on a reef. He was forgiven in the subsequent inquiry, and went on to further glory in a brand new ship, so alls well that......... :)

Guid hunting,

Thrall

Thanks for pointing us to this one Chris. It has been invaluable in my research into my husband's South of England rellies.

Chris,

Thanks for bringing this back to the top. I thought it was probably long gone! Now I can look for my mess of Taylors too!
