Hello Karen and Annette I have spent the day following up on all the information you both had kindly put together and now have the following details:
Marriage of Andrew McLuckie & Janet Gow, he a collier, he Mary Hill and she residing there.
Death of Janet McLuckie died Oct 14 1861 Maryhill parents James Gow/Christian Reid
Death of Andrew McLuckie died 26 Mar 1872 Maryhill parents Alexander McLuckie/Mary Nisbet (per a McLuckie nephew)
I have census details for 1841/1851/1861/1871 and a death of a daughter Elizabeth in 1861 also. The 1871 Census I hold is for Andrew and his son I could not identify Christina on the 1871 could you tell me if she is under McLuckie or Campbell please?
I am delighted with the information and the pieces all fit but the McLuckie & Campbell part confuses me. I did note the John Campbell & Margaret Gow information on the 1841 Census.

Hi Anne,
The Campbell v McLuckie thing confuses me too. She may not be the right Christina, but there's a lot of coincidences, and this would explain why you haven't been able to track her down.
Another thing I found was Margaret CAMPBELL MCLUCKIE m Joseph HOUSTEN. They have a few children listed on the IGI, amongst them, Christina REID HOUSTEN, Jessie GOW HOUSTEN, and John CAMPBELL HOUSTEN. So John CAMPBELL was important to Christinas sister, maybe after the mothers death, John and Margaret took on the roll of caring for the kids. Perhaps Christina thought a new start in Australia warrented a new name? A lot of maybes there and I don't know how you could prove it. Maybe there's a clue on the Australian end of things. Which states have you searched for her arrival?
Also I think Christina McLUCKIE is in argyll in the 1871. Is that right Annette?

Yes I'm sure that's the correct Christina McLuckie at Dunoon, Argyll in 1871.

Annette

Hello Karen & Annette, Have just returned from travelling to Canberra for a few days for my mother's 80th Birthday function hence my delay in responding. I now have thanks to yourselves and the Scotlands People website have built up a large amount of information on this family.
I ran into a stumbling block with Andrew McLuckie in that while his parents are noted on his death certificate as Alexander McLuckie and Mary Nisbet (nephew gave this information) I believe I have the correct marriage of Alexander McLuckie and Mary Halket (of Falkirk) and have located all their children apart from Andrew. Brothers found in Glasgow are noted in this group so am satisfied this is the correct family.
I am delighted that thanks to you both, and your lateral thinking in looking for Christina, you have resolved my mystery with Christina.
Unfortunately I have been unable to locate her arrival into Australia but have now isolated it to post 1871 Census in Scotland and 16 Feb 1877 when she married in Australia. I have checked all known NSW, QLD & Vic Immigration/Passenger lists and also the Mariners and Ships in Australian Waters search for both Campbell and McLuckie without success.
I note her death certificate of 1885 notes "time in the Colony 10 years" so believe my only option now is to start searching individual ships on the above Mariners site and hopefully locate her this way.
My sincere thanks for all your assistance I am delighted. Anne Wiltshire

Hello Anne,
Is there any chance this girl may have married in Scotland and gone to Australia under her married name either with or without the spouse?
Between 1871 and 1876 there were a number of possible marriages. There was Christina McLuckie in 1874 and 1876, the 1874 one, from the IGI, being to Daniel McDonald. Then there was a Christina McCluckie, in 1876, and a Christina Macluckie in 1872 to a William Ross Bilsland. All these marriages were in Lanarkshire. Post 1875 marriages aren’t on the IGI.
