RCE for paternity?.....

Post by Dennis » Sat Oct 01, 2005 9:00 pm

I was looking at the BC for a Rose Ellen Tulloch, which has her and apparently her mom as illegitimate. The RCE for Rose reads Paternity of child found by ? of courts:

Hi Dennis,

Here is my understanding of what is written.
  • Paternity of Child
    found by Dec. of Court
    See Regr. of Corr. Entries
    Vol. 1 p. 14.
    December 4th 1884
Dec. is probably decree (could also be declaration).

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

It will be a brave person that tries to pin a date to new data coming online at ScotlandsPeople. Last I heard, the filming was complete, but the indexing to link the RCEs to the original certificates was proving to be a nightmare. I won't be betting my wages on seeing them come online by the end of this year.

All the best,

So to get that RCE would it mean ordering Rose Ellen's BC?

Hi Dennis,

Yes, or the other option is if you can have someone visit NRH view the RCE (on microfiche, as the same indexing problem will apply to NRH too) and copy out the details for you.

'Fraid so, until the RCEs come on line. , or getting someone on an NRH visit to have a keek.

If you do decide to order the extract, then make sure that you make it clear that you know that there is an RCE involved, and that you want to have the full text of this. Otherwise the extract may show the father's name without any explanation that this information is via an RCE entry following a Sheriff Court paternity action.
