Right I've found them in 1871 living at 73 King Street, Calton!!!!!

Charles Stewart 38 unmarried
Elizabeth Cameson 38 lodger unmarried
James Cameson 4 son
Fanny Cameron 7 daughter

We were right about the James Cameron born at Calton in 1867. The address where he was born is 73 King Street. His granny registered the birth.

I think this is them in 1861 living at Saltmarket -

William Doughtie 57
William Doughtie 36
William Doughtie 6
Fanny Cameron 41
Elizabeth Cameron 24

Sister Fanny was registered under Stewart in 1864 and, although Charles and Elizabeth state they were married in 1861 on her birth entry, there is no sign of any such marriage.

FRANCES STEWART

Event(s):
Birth:
28 APR 1864 Calton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Parents:
Father: CHARLES STEWART Family
Mother: ELIZABETH CAMERON

Fanny senior died in 1871 at 73 King St and Charles registered her death as her son in law.
Elizabeth Cameron died in 1872 at 73 King Street and a neighbour registered it.
Charles died in 1873 at the City Poorhouse UR 73 King Street.

I am convinced this is the right family and now you've got to go to The Mitchell Library where I'm sure you'll find info on what happend to Fanny and James after 1872.

Regards,
Annette

this wasnt who i was looking for Annette , and as they never married even after James birth , i dont see it being them , as this is a Charles , she married a James
and this Frances as she was born , wasnt the one who died , as they have different parents details ,
the Frances who died 1877 in Bardowie her folks was a Charles and Lizzie McPherson ,her Dad was a carter ones from King street , he was a Bill poster ,
this one in King Street i have all the certifcates on them , and so far i only found 1 Eliz Cameron who married a James after what i am thinking on James birth in 1868 , was a couple who married in 1869 , she was from West Bothwell Street , he was from Ireland , or at least gave a Irish add ,
but i couldnt find either of them in 1881 census ,
the death cert for my Granda has Eliz Cameron , -Afterwards Stewart , under his name as Stewart it says formally Cameron , so i expect means he was born as Cameron , this gets worse ,

Hi again,

How do you know she married a James??

One of the reasons I am convinced is- James Stewart (Cameron) gave his father's name as Charles Stewart when he married.

annette
to let you understand and its hard to work out , i think somehow James has been born to this couple cameron/stewart , hes went onto be what they called adopted , by a Chas Stewart and Agnes Mcpherson , getting a few marriage but none with Handloom weaver , my Late cousins wife , thinks its them that died and placed James in the Poorhouse ,
my Brother knew Granda was adopted , and thought the mans name was Charles Andrew , drawing a blank , with that , i am getting a few Anges with a James , but no Charles unless hes died first ,
when he married in 1891 , hes used these peoples details as his parents ,
there is a Janet born 1896 ,i have manage to see her birth cert , but i know shes died young , then another daugther born 1899 , now she has Cameron in her name so do at least 2 others , i know there was several babies dead as babies or still born between the marriage and early 1900s , i havent found these , seems when hes registered each child hes put the C in when signing ,just C ,not in full but when he married he doesnt use it ,as if hes not known at that stage , i was told he got his birth cert later and found about about the birth Parents , and it has to be before 1899 hes found out , its just a mess , My own Mum said he was an Orphan and he was an only child , i cant remember much more on anything ,apart from him always being a baker from learning as probably a 13 /14 year old

wellllll , many years ago probably in 1993 ish , i done this search in Reg House ,and found a James Cameron with a RCE , saying James was the Father and the parents married ,
and my Mother said he was named after his Father , then my Brother remembered the adopted Dad was a Charles , but thought Andrew was a middle name ,
sadly i had these notes just in a note book , 2 house moves later they are lost and i cant remember full details ,just bits
this Charles from King Streets folks were Charles Stewart (carter) Eliz Renfrew ,
on both these ppls death cert it says they are single ,
does it make sense , ?

I think the only way you are going to confirm anything is by visiting The Mitchell Library and checking the poorhouse applications. They can be a wealth of information.

As I related in a previous post, this was how I discovered that my friend's grandfather was orphaned and never knew the correct details of his birth.

Go to 1871 census at Ancestry, put Lanarkshire in the county box, Parson in the street box and Stewart in the surname box. You should get 28 people.

I wanted to do it without the name to try to overcome Ancestry's awful transcriptions :(
Anderson, McAlpine, Blue - Argyll
Dunn Fife /ML
Coutts, McGregor - Perth/Govan
Glen, Crow, Imrie - Angus
Scott & Pick ML
Mason - Co Down
