Can't help you with that I'm afraid. My archive access finishes in 1907.

Maybe you'll find something here:

Glad you've now got a name and a couple of images - well done!

Hi:)

When a person who holds the license for a pub sells it to another person, what documentation is involved and is it registered in any place(s)?

Does the person actually own the property or just the license?

Hello Dennis,

The law regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages varies from Country to Country, State to State and possibly Council to Council and changes over time.

This page looks interesting for tracing Publican ancestors and on how the system works.

You’ll find some slightly difficult to read England/Wales and Scotland info here http://books.google.com.au/books?id=Juh ... UC&pg=PT53

It looks as though Liquor Licensing matters in England and Wales were dealt with by the local Magistrates Court and were known as Justices Licences but are now issued by the District Council which for Countesthorpe appears to be Blaby. Maybe relatively recent licensing records are held there? http://www.blaby.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/ ... -act-2003/

Could this be the ‘Axe & Square’, on the corner of Wigston St. and Central St. with the car park to the north. http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&i ... 01497&z=19

Hope that helps a bit,
Alan

Thanks Dennis,

It certainly stands out with the chimney arrangement, a very interesting looking building. At times like these we could do with ‘Street View’ but they don’t seem to have visited Leicestershire yet.

All the best,
Alan
