Thanks for the feedback Meg,

So this was the fellow. It’s supposed to be sewn onto the ribbon of the Atlantic Star. Any sign of needle marks on the AS ribbon? Maybe it came off and was lost or perhaps never sewn on in the first place. http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgu ... s%3Disch:1

Yes Alan that's the one! No sign of stitches on the ribbon. I like to think that by the time he received these medals more important things were going on his life - awaiting my arrival. :)

I have learned an amazing amount about medals since starting this - for instance that ebay one is not an original. I think the word "new" gives it away :wink:

Main family lines are Harpers from Midlothian, Fife & Kinross-shire, and Dobies/Dobbies from Midlothian. Also Strathearn, Stobie, Layden and Downie.
