Hi Margaret ,
My Great Grandmother lived at 33 Bairds Row in 1886 with her new husband. They must have been neighbours of your family.
She remarried in 1891 to my GGF and stayed in 141 until 1895.
I've been trying to trace this address as well so all your replies have been great to read.
Haven't been on for a while so hope you catch this posting.

Hi Margaret.
I was plying golf with a pal of mine(60years)Sam Dunn and I happened to mention to him about your inquiry and the death of you Grand-father.
Sam was a miner in Blantyre, he told me that there were a lot of deaths on the railway lines due to the aproximation of mine to the lodgings of the miners. To get to the Craighead pit from the Bairds Rows your grandfather had to cross not one but two railway lines. The L.M.S.R. Blantyre Fork and the L.M.S.R.Hamilton Branch lines. The Craighead Junction was a very busy area. A lot of the coal from around the mines in Blantyre was transported to Glasgow via these lines.
One of my relations a young boy working in the Auchinraith mine met with the same fate. There were few bridges across the lines for the miners and after finishing a shift being tired they choose the easy way home which usually included crossing a railway line. One has to remember the amount of miners working on any one shift, some night and day,so that was maybe why there were a lot of deaths
Sorry about the dramatic monologue

Sorry Margaret.
My Forrester was from Ireland. He was a JohnForrester Co Mayo born abt 1836 married a Bridget Gallacher from Co Mayo born abt 1836 They Married Govan 16th July 1853.Only reference to Ireland is on census 1881 and children's birth certificate, which say born Co Mayo Ireland. No mention of parish for either John/Bridget.
My Finlay's. Findlay's are all from Glasgow Most prominent name for researching family is "Hunter"Findlay 1788.
My connection to the Pollock"s is through a Isobel Findlay who married a
James Moir 1st june 1815 and their daughter Susan Steel Moir married a Robert Pollock 17th Aug 1840. These Pollock's moved to Birmingham England, but i am sure they left a lot of other parts of the family in Glasgow.
If you ever want to talk some more about Blantyre i am always available,i love to reminisce about my place of birth.
Researching Dunsmuir,Dunsmore, Hart,Jackson,Ralston, Frame, Findlay,Naismith,Forrester, Pollock,Robertson.Barr,Arbuckle,, Gilchrist,Carroll.

Blantyre Streets
So Margaret,
What's the facination with Blantyre. Have you noticed the amount of views this subject is still generating each day, over 560 since day one and counting.Seems like a lot of people are very interested in this small town.
Most of them must be of Irish descent ,My reason, While going over my 1881 census when I am looking for a relative,I make it a habit to look to see who is living next door.and I always find that at least 55% are from Ireland,From say 1830--1881,and a few of them are my relatives. Most of the men were miners if not all of them that lived in Blantyre.
I do not know if the whole of Lanarkshire minus Glasgow was like that,as most of the Irish at that time I believe were working at the docks in Govan,as mine were.Maybe somebody has some numbers on this one.
Would like to know if my estimation is any where near the mark, and what is the facination with Blantyre,if any.
Researching- Dunsmuir Dunsmore Hart Findlay Finlay Naismith Pollock Reid McIntosh Meldrum Lindsay Montgomery--Lanarkshire
Carroll Forrester Wilson Gallacher---Ireland
