You might be lucky with the OPR.I have seen some with info on both parents, occupations but the more likely is what has been posted already.
The alternative is to go to your(hopefully!) local Family History Centre & see if they have the films. If not you can order them for a small fee-I am talking about the LDS Family History Centres.

Hi Sheryl
I was in a position where I was doing some work in the library so thought I'd have a look at the OPR for your Meldrum marriage. It is as predicted by myself and Andy, the content of the marriage on 22 May, 1853 Kettle, Fife is as follows:
"1853, May 22nd, Robert Meldrum of the Parish of Scoonie & Jane Birrell of this Parish. "
That's it...
Didn't have time to look at the Scoonie entry, not even sure if they have it - the film needed is 456/4 but the library only seemd to have noted on the box up to 456/3. It may be lurking at the end of the film none the less, but even if it is, its likely to be similar to the Kettle entry.
best wishes
Lesley

Jean Scott
Hi,
The following may give you a few answers- and a lot more questions!
Jane Scott died on 11th April 1886 at Durie Farm,Scoonie(same place as she was living with Robert Meldrum in 1881). She was 77.
She is described as the widow of Andrew Anderson, Ploughman and the daughter of Walter Scott, Crofter (dec'd) and Ann Scott m/s Bremner(dec'd). Informant of death was Robert Meldrum, Illegitimate Son.
Jane Scott married Andrew Anderson at Collessie in 1832. They appear to have had at least one child- James Anderson born Abdie 1836.
There is also a death recorded on xmas day 1857 in Scoonie for a Margaret Meldrum or Brodie aged 78,who could be the grandmother shown with Robert Meldrum in 1851. Unfortunately her death cert simply describes her as a 'widow', daughter of Archibald Brodie, Supervisor(no mother's name). The igi has a marriage between a Margaret Brodie and a David Meldrum in St Andrews in 1808. Only one child seems to be recorded- Dorothea in 1813-however there may be more including the Meldrum father (James?) of your Robert. Margaret Meldrum died at Viewforth House,Leven and is buried in Scoonie Cemetery. Informant of death was a medical physician.
Hope this gives you a few more leads.
Regards,
Isobel (in a guy dreich edinburgh)
