Hi Sarah
This looks like it could be them ! Marion was born 30 May 1864 in Falkirk, and her mother was also called Marion - so it fits for her 1st daughter. If they had any other sons hopefully there will be a William. The other census reports would be great if you don't mind.
None of the family seemed to be renowned for their intelligence - so not knowing how long they had been married for is no surprise !
This is great news - thank you for your help

Hi Morag,
So glad they turned out to be the right ones! There is only one further child, wee Agnes, so James is the only son. He, unfortunately, is an invalid and is still living with his parents in 1930. I think some of the problem must be mental as, in all but one of the census forms he is listed as unable to read & write. Some of the neighbours may be interesting also, as there are other Johnstons and Millers, as well as a Reid from Scotland.
There is at least one ship's list with Marion returning to Scotland to visit with 2-year old James in 1895. She is indexed as "Mrs. Alexr Johnston"
I have sent you a PM
All the best,
Sarah
