I may not be following this correctly but...

Grandfather was 'Stewart, formly Cameron'
GxGrandmother was a Cameron who later married a Stewart

Possiblity 1 - GF was Stewart Snr's natural son and took/was given his name after the marriage (which make him legitimate)
Possiblity 2 - GF wasn't Stewart Snr's natural son but took/was given his name after the marriage
Possiblity 3 - GF was given name of his adoptive parents.

Stewart/Cameron may have moved to Ireland after marriage GF didn't

Could they have left him with Stewart relatives? I've seen a Isabella Stewart and and Charles Stewart mentioned. And you said both sets of parents were dead before the Stewart/Cameron wedding...

Just trying to get things straight in my head. :?

hi Maggie
forget the other stewarts , as thats comming in from my Grandmothers side
all stewarts around me ,
yes Grandfather was born James Cameron ,
his Mother Elizabeth Cameron no other details it says afterwards Stewart,
no where does it say what the fathers name is , so going by maybe the Father or Grandfather was a James ,
no proof anywhere they went to Ireland , but nothing here being found on them dying ,YOUNG , or young enough to put James into the poorhouse ,
the 1867 James he has a Sister , born 1866 , she died 1887 , that was a Eliz Cameron , he was a Charles , they died around 1871 and 1873 ,
they didnt marry ,
all we know is we were told his Parents died when he was young , he was an only child , and we always thought his folks were young , but young as in ? under 20 ,30 , i dont know ,
on his marriage cert he has Mother Agnes m/s McPherson , Father Charles Stewart a hand loom weaver , my cousin said he was adopted by this couple ,my Brother also remembers being told this , i cant say i heard this st all ,
when James married in 1891 he married a Janet Buchanan Crawford , she being 19 him 21 , the other Stewarts belong to her , lol
they had a child Janet born around 1896 shes on the roll with her Sister born 1899 , but i know she died , just not when, so dont know if maybe James needed his birth cert to reg a dead child , as i know we did in 1977 , they wanted both certs then , but thats purely a guess , but hes needed it for something , this is when he has found out who the real Mother at least was ,

See I knew I was confused. :?

Take anything you are 'told' with allot of salt  My only-child Grandfather was one of five I have found out.
his Mother Elizabeth Cameron no other details it says afterwards Stewart,
So do you have anywhere that says 'afterwards Stewart' or is that just your notes? That could mean she changed her name and not through church marriage. And she changed James Cameron to Stewart as well.

I still think my possiblities stand, though you may never be able to prove any of them without finding a document somewhere. :(
the 1867 James he has a Sister , born 1866 , she died 1887 , that was a Eliz Cameron , he was a Charles , they died around 1871 and 1873 ,
Does it say if the parents are deceased on any of these death certificates? Might give you a clue...

hi
it only says under Elizabeth Cameron afterwards Stewart on my Grandas Death cert ,
i dont have the notes now thats why i had to restart it all over again ,
i done the search around 1994 , and it was in Reg House , i must have seen a RCE somewhere , as i seen something that has said this James was his Father , he has signed saying so ,
we are going to book a day and go back in , as its too costly doing it online , that way we can see every enter from 1867-71 then look the folks up as well , i am getting no where online , till i get a DOB , i really have nothing ,
