I'm jumping up and down - Thanks to GR!

Post by emanday » Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:07 pm

I got my list of "Hot Matches" yesterday and went through them with my usual expectation of most being right name & birthdate, but totally wrong place. There were a couple of good potential matches to my more distant rellies - message sent off, of course.

Then the one that really got my heart pounding! It was an exact match to my Grandfather's sister. Off went my message to check that the parents were right and I got a wonderful reply.

It turns out that my Granda's sister's son went to Zimbabwe, got married, and the family still live there!

I have a 2nd cousin in Zimbabwe! [woohoo]

She has only started her tree and never expected to get any hits, certainly not from such a close rellie!

I got a good match in this week's lot - a fourth cousin somewhere in Scotland.

All the best,

Excellent timing for GR as well  My subscription is due for renewal on the 30th and I was debating whether or not to do it. I gotta stick with them now, haven't I!

Andrew,

Great news for you as well. Me and some of my more distant rellies on GR have proved quite useful to each other as we are obviously following different, but connecting branches.

Mary, wonderful news!

I just joined GR for the first time recently and almost immediately connected through a hot match with a cousin in the paternal line I'd only just scratched the surface of. It's a great feeling, isn't it? :D

I'm beginning to think that between GR having got their database "matching" system better organised and the worldwide interest in family research increasing, their site might just start really coming up with the "connections" they have been marketing.

All I know is that I have rediscovered a branch of my family I never knew existed.

[cheers] to GR

Hi all

I recently renewed my GR subscription and amended my tree. Almost immediately I got a great match with a line I had "worked out" on my own (after a first lead from another GR contact). Baaks/Flucker/Neilson back to the mid 1600's. The hot match confirmed what I had found with only a couple of minor differences and the source was a long time researcher for this lot. It does appear that they seem to be a bit incestous mind you   And no one is really sure who married whom  Crivens! first a ggggrandmother who looks like she was in jail, and now this so much for having a quiet lot with no scandal

Och, Stewie, I love coming across wee scandals!

Strangely, rather than being shocked by most of them now, I tend to have a bit of a giggle at what they got up to!
