In spite of all their faults, GR do sometimes come up trumps.
My new year resolution is to reduce the clutter in my life, both physical and mental
As part of addressing this, I decided the other day to trawl through my 16 pages
I have a particular line with which I have been struggling since I started this lark over 3 years ago now. My great grandmother Betsy Glen. As she was born illegitimately, I had been banging my head against the proverbial brick wall. She was born to a Jessie Glen in 1878, and I thought I knew the history of every Jessie Glen on the planet, without managing to connect any of them to Betsy. In fact a few kind souls on here have also been involved in the search for Betsy and Jessie a couple of years ago.
But - in trawling through the hot matches, two seperate ones came up, each just with one match, one for Betsy Glen and one for Jessie Glen. I did not dare to hope that there really would be a connection, but sent messages anyway.
Boy did I get a result - or in fact 2!!!!!
The gentleman who had Jessie Glen thought mine was not his relative but gave me the nugget that his Jessie had married Joseph Townsley. When I checked them out, I discovered that it is in fact my Jessie, and now have 3 generations back from her.
The second one, Betsy Glen is even more exciting, as I have now traced forward and found my dad's first cousin alive (plus another 6 still alive). My dad never knew any of his 11 aunts and uncles as my granny lost contact with the family, and we've been trying for years to track them down. Now we have made contact, we are hoping to arrange a meeting.
All of this in the space of 4 days since checking out those hot matches.
So never say die - and check out even the 1 match ones before discarding them.
Ellen.
