EDWARD ROBERTSON BORN 1821 LEITH.

Post by robbiej » Wed Mar 19, 2008 6:39 am

Sarah you have been a Gem and a mine of information and kept me sane :D
BUT we cannot find Birth etc for EDWARD ROBERTSON B/1821. LEITH. A Bottle Maker.
He married Elizabeth Glen. Nov.6th 1845.
Elizabeth died aged 56 on Feb 5th 1871 in South Leith (IGI Batch M195048.)
We cannot find him of IGI and FreeCEN. Possibly he might be on ScotlandsPeople.
ALSO Information on HIS PARENTS.... I had a possible of Margaret More as his mother and a John Robeertson as Father, but this doesn't come up either.
Maybe someone can come up with info in him...
Please.... .

Hello Robbie,

He is on FREECEN living at Leith in 1841 but not with his parents I'm afraid.

Looks like he is living at Glasgow with his son in 1891.

Have you checked his death entry for parents' names?

Regards,
Annette

I had a look on FreeCen but could not find him . Will look again.
Very much a Novice here !
I had a look on ScotsPeople but they wanted NZC? for 60 credits and as of now I only wanted to use maybe 2 credits -Not sure how much is is in NZ currency. (It seems that it is a credit a look,)
Anyway the long and short of it is that I haven't pay access to the site I thought that MAYBE someone who has unlimited credits might look it up for me.
That possibly would be a son from the Marriage to Elizabeth Glen that you say he is with...., although I have him in 1841 living in Salamander st. Sth Leith, with a Rbt & Jane Mason, and a Thomas Henderson... Presume he was a boarder in the house.
I was given the following....
Then he is married to Eliz Glen in 1845 (6th Nov) Sth Leith Midlothian - This is from OPR.
Then in 1851 @ 27 Elbe St. Sth Leith. Midlpthian, with Edward Robertson (HIM?) aged 29 and Elizabeth Robertson 31 and baby Elizabeth Robertson aged 2.

1871 @ 7 Livingstone Pl. Leith Sth. etc, with Edward Robertson 50 and Edward Robertson son 20, and Margaret Robertson 17.
These I presume are his son and daughter.
Elizabeth is ????
Then nothing till 1881 when he is with the Gordon Family (Elizabeth's family)
Then in 1891 he is in Kelvin Glasgow at aged 70 with son and family

There is no sign of him in 1901 onward...
Hope all that makes sense !
I wanted HIS Edward B/1821 Leith Sth parents as well.!!

NOW have death Cert for Edward B/1821
..... he died August 26th 1900 @ 42 Easter Rd Sth Leigh.
But I cannot read the Father's name... LOOKS AS IF IT COULD BE Kent ??? = The mother is it seems or was MARGARET MORE. both parents DECEASED.
It is signed by Grand daughter MAGGIE (MARGARET?) HENDRIE? That too is difficult to read, but it does give something to go on.

Did you download the certificate from ScotlandPeople ?
If you did & it's illegible then if you go back to the site you will find a "contact us" button.
Press that & options will come up.Click on the "illegible" one & they will get back to you with a clearer copy.
If it's that you can't read the handwriting post it to the Gallery-instructions as above & we will have a wee look & try to help with the wording.

I think Leigh will be Leith.

Hi all,
I have uploaded the cert for robbiej. Edward's father's first name is a bit of a puzzle-- mostly to do with the handwriting, rather than the state of the cert. His flamboyant capital "R"s for Robertson tend to take over the page  and one is not sure what's left!

In all the census records Edward says he was born in Leith or South Leith. Some of you with experience with that area (Lesley? :D ) might suggest where or if the birth might be found. No sign of it on SP.

Ah, Mr Archer again. I'd recognise that hand anywhere.... The father's first name may start with a letter R
Seems to be a note in the left margin too - any ideas what that is about?

 I didn't notice the registrar was your old friend, Lesley 8) Could you put in the link to the cert, please? Or can I, now that it is approved? Oh, I see Andrew has kindly done the deed :D

No idea. And since robbiej got it from someone else who got it... not sure where, I've no idea if anyone has checked. Can you read that note?

Hi Sarah
Only half the note is visible which makes it pretty hard - can I see Glasgow there or am I imagining things?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hard to tell what you might be imagining, Lesley   but I think it does say Glasgow. His son was in Glasgow, and he had been living there with his son & family in the census before... so maybe it says something about him popping off on the train from Glasgow or some such? Perhaps he was visiting family back in Leith?

All the best,
Sarah
