Post by aileenmwallace » Mon Apr 21, 2008 5:35 pm

Hi I'm loolking for some guidance. My gt.gt. gt.grandfather & grandmother died leaving six children aged from 4 - 14 (1862) I have discovered that 3 of them were adopted, is there some way I can trace this or check it out :? Any info would be greatly appreciated :!: :!:

Hi Aileen:

There are two items in the TalkingScot Library dealing with adoption which may be of interest:

http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... t=adoption

http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... t=adoption (deals with more recent practices)

Also, see LesleyB and AndrewP's recent posts in this thread - http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... t=adoption

Have you checked to see if any of the children are listed under their own names in the 1871 census? They may never have assumed the names of the families with whom they were placed - especially the elder ones.

Hope you find something of use in the above, but we're ready for your follow-up questions on anything you find/don't find.

All the best with your search,
Frances
