Had some good luck with the GRO!

Post by speleobat2 » Tue May 20, 2008 12:00 am

First of all, my compliments to the people in Extract Services at New Register House. I ordered a copy of a death certificate on Monday, May 12th online and it arrived here in Alabama today Monday, May 19th. They had warned that it might take 20 days due to demand! :D

The death certificate was for my grandmother's sister-in-law, wife of her older brother John. John Munro and Isabella Daniel married in 1912 and I was never able to fined out if they had children given the number of Munros out there! John died in 1926. A week ago I was reviewing blank twigs on my family tree and decided to check out Isabella again. I found her death in 1966 and on a chance, I ordered a copy of her death certificate.

It was worth the $19.96!
The informant was Isabella M. Munro, daughter! \:D/

In my parents papers, my sister had found a tiny 2x3 inch picture labeled Bessie Munro, 1935. Also, in the obituary for my grandmother's sister Mary C. Munro, it said that she was survived by two nephews and three nieces. We had accounted for the two nephews and one niece, but the other two nieces remained mysteries. Now we know that Bessie was one of them so one more mystery solved and one to go! :D

Congratulations on solving another wee piece of the puzzle, Carol...just one more to go, for now, anyway!

Thanks Anne!

Of course, I did a search of the birth records and came up with at least one I'm almost certain is a sister and a bunch who could be siblings! Wish the privacy law was only 70 years or that I had an elf living in New Register House who could look up things for me! :)

Hi Carol

Did you check SP deaths for Munro with mother's maiden name Daniel. There is an Elizabeth Mary Munro aged 83 who died in Ellon in 1997 - that would mean she was born about 1914/5 - well within your time scale.

Susan.

Hi Susan,

Yes, that's mine! I'm sure that Elizabeth Mary Munro is the Bessie in the photo. I haven't checked for deaths with Daniel as a mother's maiden name yet. However, I checked for births and there is an Isobel Daniel Munro born in 1915 whom I'm betting is Bessie's sister! Have to see if my sister wants to pay for this certificate! :D
