William Oliver in Largs.....

Post by maggie » Sun Jul 03, 2005 7:18 pm

Hello
i am searching for information on a William Oliver who i have in the 1871 census age 70 with a wife Jean living at gateside street Shearers land in Largs.William's occupation is listed as a ship&boat builder.
Although i have found the wife Jeans death cert in 1873 i can't locate one for William though i take it he was still alive in 1873 as Jean's cert say's married to William Oliver.
On the 1871 it gives William's birh place as Dumfries .
any help on finding anything else on William would be really appreciated as i think quite possibly he is my only hope of being able to take my Oliver line back any further as his two brothers died before 1855.
i got this lead for William's existance from poor relief records for his nephew.
i think possibly going from Jeans death cert that this Shearers land was something to do with her family as that is her maiden name &also the lady in the census listed above William&jean was called Barbara Shearer.
thankyou regards maggie

Maggie

Try Paisley in 1879......................

There may be an associated poor relief record.

Hello Davie
thankyou for your message following your advice
i went back to my previous searches that i had done for him i had paid to view all 5 of them and sure enough there he is  .i need to be more carefull and read the whole cert for each one before ruling it out i hadn't even noticed that his occupation tied in .i will investigate the possibility of more info on the poor relief but it looks like it could be a dead end .thankyou for showing me the light !!!Davie it's appreciated regards maggie
