bigamy again

Post by marionbe » Wed Sep 03, 2008 8:49 pm

Hi Folks, wondered if anybody can help(its doing my head in)

My gggrandmother was convicted of bigamy in 1910 (she was fined).
I have spent days looking through the online catalogues of the archives, edinburgh, after the bigamy case, they left scotland and went to blyth to live, would I still be able to find a copy of their divorce here in scotland.
Her first husband got married again after this, so I was thinking that there would have had to definetly been a divorce, if he got married again.

or would the divorce papers been sent to england (is that why I cant find them here in scotland.

Hope someone knows what I'm talking about.
Thanks

I'm not too clued up on that side of things, but I *think* there would [should] have been a note [RCE] written on the original marriage entry, or entries in this case.

I don't think they are viewable on Scotland's People as yet, as they are hard to index.

Have you found either of her marriage entries on SP?
If the bigamy proceedings were in 1910, then the marriage entries should be on-line.

Others will not doubt be able to point you in a more precise direction to see the details.
