James Robertson and Euphemia Smith

Post by John Bird » Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:58 am

Hi All

I am trying to trace birth and marriagee dates for my great x 3 grandparents James Robertson and Euphemia (Euphame?) Smith. They would have married around 1800. Their children were Alexander bn 22/12/1802, Grace bn 1804, William bn 6/9/1806, Jean bn 8/8/1807 (my g x2 grandmother), James bn 4/4/1814. James, Euphemia, Jean (and husband and children) and William (and wife and 2 daughters) emigrated to Australia in 1832. I have not been able to find James or Euphemia's marriage or birth records in ScotlandsPeople, and it maybe that they wee involved with a Relief or Sesssionist Church.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

regards

Hello John,
Have you located their death records in Australia to see if a birthplace or age at death is mentioned? Do you have any clue what part of Scotland they came from? Where in Australia did they end up? Robertson and Smith in Scotland sound like needles in a haystack otherwise  If you give us all the information you have, someone may be able to track them down.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

Thanks for the offer of help.

James died in Hobart Tasmania in 1867 aged 87 indicating he would have been born about 1777. He was born in Edinburgh. Euphemia died in Hobart Tasmania in 1858 aged 82 making her birth around 1776 . She was also born in Edinburgh.

Originally I thought that James married a Euphemia Abernethy in 1797 but the Birth certificates of children indication Euphemia's surname was Smith. All their children were born in Edinburgh.

regards

John
