Mary Ann Ramsay
I am having trouble working out where Mary Ann Ramsay was born and who her father was.
She is on the 1911 Canada census (look for Mard Ann Ramsay husband George) in Sault Ste Marie, Algoma Co. The transcription says she was born "Plym Kco Eng". The image is hazy and looks like it starts with "Plym" with England at the end.
The age is not necessarily right as George Ramsay was born in Scotland 6 Feb 1877 - he put his age up and she may have brought hers down. When she died in 1913 she is aged 44
Mary Ann died 15 Apr 1913 in Sault Ste Marie (image on Ancestry). At first glance her father's name looks like Paronse but may be something like Parsons, or it could be a u or w after the Pa.
If someone else could have a look I would appreciate it
Thanks
April

Hi April:
Definitely not a good image! I viewed it at http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ ... p?id=79282
Along the top of the page double click on split view and you can see the census ledger
1911 Census of Canada
Home / 1911 / Ontario / Algoma West / 26 Sault Ste. Marie / page 4 split view
George and Marg't Ann are on lines 7 and 8.
They were living at 18 Hughes St. and George is listed as a machinist. George is listed as being Scottish and his wife is listed as being English, and I think it says Plymouth or Plummer Eng.
It says they immigrated in 1906 and gives their births as Feb and Mar 1873.
I am sending you a PM about getting information on this couple for you.
Frances

Yes, received your PM OK this time thanks
I have uploaded the death certificate image to the gallery, in case anyone can work out Mary's maiden name.

Hi April,
Here is my best guess. Could the entry on the census say "Plym. Dev. Eng" or "Plymtree, Eng"?:
In the 1871 census there is a Mary Ann Prouse, age 3 living with her grandparents William and Ann G Prouse in Plymtree, Devon. There is no sign of who her parents were. BUT, in 1861 William and Ann do have a son Robert, born 1842 in Gittisham.
Mary Ann Prouse, born Plymtree, is in Northfield, Worcestershire in 1881, a servant in the Weaver family.
If this sounds plausible to you, I will look further into this family.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah & Frances
"Plym. Dev. Eng" or "Plymtree, Eng" both look plausible when compared to the image and Mary Ann Prouse seems promising. The death entry image might read something"Parowse".
If Mary was illiterate George may have been going by her pronunciation and it may have sounded like that.
There are only a couple of results on Ancestry for Paronse and Pannse so probably not those.
George was my great grandmother's brother and Mary Ann was his first wife.
