Firefox rather than IE?

Hi,

I'm not too great with the technical side of computers but understand that with this security problem with IE computer experts are advising a change to Firefox.
Should I do this? Will I notice a difference in layout etc? Will I "lose" my current favourites?

Is there a new security problem ? I just think that (and if you read my posts you will know i am no expert !) If you have good virus protection and so far i have found AVG Free better than anything ive paid a lot of money for and run this weekly or more often if i am off work and my pc is on all the time and along with that run spyware weekly and dont open any emails that look suspicious your fine. I only had one debilitating virus once - the one about five years ago that was a nightmare to stay on the pc long enough to type in a code that got rid of it.
I may be talking about the totally wrong thing but a family member recently had Firefox on his pc but didnt like it and so had it removed.

As I understand it a Microsoft has discovered IE has a security flaw which lays users open to hijackers when visiting targeted web sites.
I am careful with emails etc and I have Norton installed.

I got a warning about this newly discovered security glitch as well. I already have Firefox and Safari (now available for Windows as well as MAC) installed, but I've only used them in the past if IE was being awkward, usually after an update .

Needless to say, Microdaft are claiming that we have nothing to worry about as they are "on it" whatever that means!

Firefox is actually rather good and you can import all your favourites into it. Haven't tried that with Safari yet, but imagine it should be an option with that as well.

Well I've been using Firefox for about 10 minutes now and I love it!!!

Both my sons use it all the time but I've always been an AOL fan (hate IE) till recently.

After reading Meg's post I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm a convert. Will have to visit all my favourite sites to get organised but a small price to pay for what I think will be a great browser. My computer seems to like it too and not groaning constantly over the conflict between AOL and AVG.

Going back to Meg's original query - viewtopic.php?t=12831&highlight= Will all of our 'favourites' be lost? and further, is there any way of copying those site addresses without going in and out of every site?

I can't see a way to save the file without it being managed by IE.

Not sure about Firefox but in Opera there is a facility to import your IE favourites - only takes seconds to do.

Also, in Windows XP your IE favourites are also stored in a folder on your C-drive called "Documents & Settings". When you open this folder it will show a folder for each user for your pc. Open your own folder and then you will see folder called "Favorites" - opening this shows all your IE favourites.

In Firefox 3.0.4 under "File>Import" you can import all of your IE bookmarks (favorites), history, passwords, etc.
