I am seeking information on the burial of Joseph George Smetzer.

His birth has him as Joseph George Smetzer and his death has him as George Joseph Smetzer.

He was born in Fulham, Kensington, London on 6th June 1870.

I have him on 1881 Census in Fulham with his parents, 1891 Census in Hampshire, Royal Marine Barracks, as a soldier

In the 1901 Census he is in Kensington, living with his mother..


He became an actor and may have gone under the name of Vaughn (Vaughan) or may have used his real name, Smetzer.

He died at 1301 Govan Rd Glasgow, and was living at the time of his death at 249 Nicholson St, Glasgow.
His death certificate states he was single.

He died on 1st Feb 1958

In what cementry would he be buried in. where can i find out, ie there some internet site i could look it up,

Joseph George Smetzer is my Grandfather`s brother.

Hello and welcome to TS Darryl,

Where he was buried would depend on whether his family were involved or not I would think.

I can tell you that 1301 Govan Road is The Southern General Hospital.

The nearest burial ground to the Southern General is Craigton and Glasgow City Council have records although the ground itself is privately owned. Since you have a date you could email les@glasgow.gov.uk and they will give you the contact.

Other than that a newspaper report or obituary may give info.

Are you sure his address was 249 as Nicholson Street isn't very long and I wouldn't imagine the numbers to go as high as that.

Hopefully somebody else may come up with something else.
