Hi John and Welcome to Talking Scot!

Is this the family in 1841?
Dundyvan Row, Old Monkland
CHALMERS, Elizabeth, 40, born Lanarkshire
CHALMERS, John, 17, Coal MIner, born Lanarkshire
CHALMERS, William, 15, Coal Miner, born Lanarkshire

It looks as though Thomas Sr. had died by 1841. Assuming that he, too, was a miner, I looked at the Scottish Mining Website for an accident, but the only accident to a Thomas Chalmers before 1841 was in 1838 at the Balbirnie Colliery in Fife-- so perhaps not the right one. Here's the site URL if you don't already know it: http://scottishmining.co.uk/index.html

Do you know that young Thomas survived childhood?

All the best,
Sarah
