Hi all
Happy New Year
I have just found my great great grandfathers death cert, and he died in Dochgarroch, Inverness, so now am looking for the grave yard / cemetery, Does anyone know where they are in that area, death was 1893 Alexander Munro age 72 ( according to death cert)
Thanks in advance
Adsmum

Re: Dochgarroch Cemetery
Hello Adsmum,
As far as I can tell Dochgarroch was just a hamlet with a canal lock and a school and not much else. It doesn’t appear to have had a church. It’s in the parish of Inverness and only about four miles from the city. Maybe he’s buried in an Inverness cemetery or churchyard.
There are a number of cemeteries on the road to Inverness but I’m not sure when they opened.
Happy New Year,
Alan

Re: Dochgarroch Cemetery
Hi all. I have only just found this website and saw this post regarding Dochgarroch Cemetery. I live about 17 miles away from Dochgarroch and my husband passes there on his way to work each day. As far as I'm aware there is no actual cemetery at Dochgarroch. I would imagine the nearest to there would have been Kilvean cemetery. There is one here on the link which I believe is possible the older one. There is also another cemetery further out thee same roaad beside the crematorium, I think probably newer. I'll be happy to help in any way I can and would be happy to go take a photo of the grave to send to you if you locate it. I know how important these things are as I am also researching my family tree. And oddly, I have found relatives in New Zealand and Australia which I hadn't expected.

Farther along the road heading South is Bona Churchwhere my late father-in-law's sister was buried in 1902.They lived at Dunain which is nearer Inverness than Dochgarroch and probably the nearest place to worship for country folk in the area.Selina (Sally) Macleod was only 4 when bitten by an adder. Her father Murdo worked for Dochfour estate.Hope it helps.
