McKenzie/MacKenzie family.....

Post by StuartB » Sat Aug 27, 2005 12:45 pm

Hi all,
I am researching my paternal Grandmother’s side of the family. My G-Grandmother’s name was Jane Eliza McKenzie who was born in Kiltarlity in 1865. Her father, John Patrick McKenzie, was born in Glen Urquhart in 1827. He married Eliza Scott at The Free Church, Milton, in 1860. According to the 1881 census John was a miller living with his family in Wester Aberchalder, south of Loch Ness. Jane was a domestic servant at the Errogie Inn. When she was 18, in 1883, Jane followed her brother and came to Liverpool leaving the rest of her brothers and sisters in Scotland. John Patrick’s father and mother were Hugh McKenzie and Margaret McKay and were born in C1800. That’s all I know at the moment. Last year we went on a camping holiday to Loch Ness and found the church and the mill that had been converted into a house. We met the couple who own the house and they very kindly let me look around. My Grandmother who unfortunately is no longer with us said that some of her ancestors were involved in the Battle of Culloden. Unfortunately at the time I did not ask any questions and it was this memory of a conversation that took place years ago that sparked off my interest in family history. I have had a good look at this site and it looks fantastic.
Kind regards
Stuart

Hello Stuart,

A search of www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk shows a death in Inverness of a Margaret McKay/McKenzie in 1869 age 63.
Might be worth a look if you haven't already done so.

Regards,
Annette M

Hi Annette,
Thanks for your reply and time. I haven't used Scotlands People yet, but I will have a look at it tomorrow. That certainly looks like my Margaret, many thanks.
Regards
