related by more than marriage
Having been doing my own tree for a few years I decided to have a look at my husband maternal side, when I came across a name I had seen before, it turned out the man Daniel was my husbands great aunt [ his granny's sister's] husband. When I looked in my tree there was the same Daniel as my great aunt [my grannys brothers wife's] cousin. So after 28 years marriage we are now finding more ancestors. Good job we are not blood relations as my son points out.

Re: related by more than marriage
Greetings.
At least the unions were not of either first or second cousins, which has made our family research of 200 years ago dificult. [More than one example, in the extended tree.]
On my Maternal side two unrelated Irish families the Hamilton's and the Livingston's, assisted each other get established in New Zealand. While I was at primary school, another house was built on the neighbouring Hamilton family land. The nephew who occupied the new house had, for me, a very uncommon given/christian name.
Imagine my surprise some 15 years later, when my new bride started talking about the retired distant relatives she used to visit when going to a beach we were about to stay at.
It's a small world.

I did some tree searching for the family I work for after the boy's maternal Grandpa died. Both maternal grandparents were born & raised in Tullibody & as I have family from Dollar thought "wouldn't it be funny if they knew each other".
After a bit of digging how surprised was I to find that my employer's Father's Grandfather was from Craigie Ayrshire like my GGGGreat-Grandfather-it's not a big place. There was a connection but an Ayrshire one not a Clackmannanshire one- this Great-Grandfather sister was married to a brother of my GGGGreat-Grandfather.

Re: related by more than marriage
Hello Stewie,
They are probably Fluckers rather than Flewkers. If you check the Flewker name on the free name search on SP you’ll find that there were eight OPR births, one marriage, and one death, and eleven statutory births and four deaths. Strangely none of them made it into any census. There are plenty of Fluckers, didn’t they make a movie about them?
Hope that helps,
Alan

Re: related by more than marriage
Hi Alan
I have a few of the Flucker/Flewker BM's it is a bit of a difficult family inasmuch the spelling varies slightly.
For example Elspet Flewker b1704 Alexander Flewker & Beatrice? Anderson/Bessie Anderson in another earlier birth.
I may also have made an error with said Elspet, I may have put her in two families
I think that I will have to re check this line while I am on leave.

Re: related by more than marriage
I had a look at this line and did a bit of sorting out, used my legacy programme to sort out the duplicates, I had inadvertantly doubled up with a family.
As for the Flewkers, well, the spelling varies from Flockhart, Fluiker, Fluker, Flewker, Flucker through the generations, with some variations within a family, (but that is to be expected if they can't read or write), then dies out in my line, as far as I can see.
