Just looking on freecen 1841 to see if i can find any Shaw,s in Kilmallie Argyll but the closest i find is Kilmeny Argyllshire. Could this be a translation error or is there such a place ?

Hi Tracey,
Kilmal(l)ie parish was split across the boundary between Argyllshire and Inverness-shire. For OPR and registration purposes, it was listed under Argyllshire until 1910. From 1911, it was listed as Inverness-shire.
Kilmeny, Argyllshire is on the Isle of Islay. So both existed, but quite a few miles apart.
All ther best,
Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew
No I havent got birth record for her b c1821 ish. On poor records Angel sent it says bp Kilmallie or Argyllshire but on census 1871 /81 it says Invernesshire - could be Fort William.

Hi Tracey,
Fort William would certainly be in the Inverness-shire part of Kilmallie.
The Clan Grant website descibes Kilmallie as follows:

- In addition to the lesser-known municipality of Kilmallie, this name is more widely known as a parish - the largest geographic parish (sixty miles in length and thirty miles in extreme breadth) in Scotland, partly in the County of Inverness and county of Argyll.
All the best,

My Kilmallie ancestors were from Achaphubuil which is on the other side of Loch Linnhe from Fort William.
I went up there a few weeks ago and also visited Kilmallie cemetery in Corpach.

Hi Jim
I havent looked into Kilmallie / Argyll yet as ive only just got moving again on this particular set of gt,s after a year of stalemate. Im not looking forward to searching for her as it seems no one knew her parents names on her death certificate the only thing i have is the possible birth place and a circa birth year.
yet another challenge
