I have just out that a sister of my grandfather married an alexander hunpherson, has anyone heard this name before, as they did not marry till 1917, I will not ne able to find children, but am quirious about where the name comes from,

Hullo Emma!

I had not heard the name before either so was curious. A search in the IGI gives over 200, with, it seems, a majority coming from Shropshire.

A Google for Humpherson turns up some interesting people.

This should take you directly to the IGI. Under last name, put Humpherson under Region put British Isles. The result is a long list.

I didn't make it clear but information on the IGI will only be up to circa 1875, possibly too early to find your great aunt. By the way where did your great aunt marry?

dear catriona, found all the humphersons and one possiblity is charles son of william and jane, nee mckay, charles was born in glasgow 1869, the strange thing is that I already have mckay in my family, now I have to look in census for charkes,s family, many thanks again. emma
