Body Snatchers?.....

Post by bethsam » Thu Sep 15, 2005 1:10 pm

Hi everyone

I have some relatives whose bodies never seem to have made it to burial.

They all died around the same time and should appear in the burial records for the Catholic cemetery, which would be St Joseph's, Airdrie. The local cemetery office can find no record of them either there, or the other cemetery which would be Old Monkland, Coatbridge. I have all the death register records, all died in Coatbridge - but where else would they have been buried? The family lived in Coatbridge and I'm fairley sure they were not cremated but how do I find out?

They were;
Husband - My Great Grandfather
James Miller/Millar died 12 August 1911 aged 40

Wife - My Great Grandmother
Mary Campbell Miller/Millar died 21 June 1914 aged 46

Daughter - My Great Aunt
Rose Miller/Millar died 18 November 1918 aged 20

Another daughter died aged 2, in 1902 and I found her in the Stillborn/Infant section of Monklands Cemetery without a problem.

I'd appreciate any help anyone could give.

Regards
Gerry

Hullo Bethsam

I suggest you contact

North Lanarkshire Council
Cemeteries Office
1 Southerhouse Road
COATBRIDGE
Lanarkshire ML5 4AA

They apparently accept only written requests for information.

Hope this helps

All the best

I think that the cemetery records may have been moved from Souterhouse Road, Coatbridge to

North Lanarkshire Council
Cemeteries Administration Office
Old Edinburgh Road
Bellshill
ML4 3JS

Tel: 01698 506301
Fax: 01698 506309

Try contacting groundsmaintenance@northlan.gov.uk to confirm where the records are now.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Gerry,
Also worth looking at the Death Notices in local newspapers to see if there is a mention of where a funeral will take place.
And sometimes there is an Acknowledgement in the paper about a week or so later thanking various folk - sometimes the undertakers are mentioned.

But not all deaths are in the papers, and less so are acknowledgements.

The reason i mention the above is that i traced a Glasgow death that way - and surprisingly the burial wasn't there at all,
but in St. Convals RC Cemetery near Barrhead in Renfrewshire.

Many thanks for the information. Been on holiday and it was great to come back to replies.

I've actually phoned the Bellshill office and written, the phone message got a please write, we don't have time.....the written request hasn't received a reply and I sent it in May. I'll have to chase them up.

The family didn't have money to put markers on the graves I have found (later deaths I've managed to find) so I think the newspapers would be out but next time I'm in Airdrie, I'll have a look.

Thanks again, everyone, for taking the time to help.
