1901 Census Record re Robert Fraser.....

Post by Joan » Thu Sep 15, 2005 7:28 pm

Can anyone help me I am quite new at researching my FT, and to this site, and am having difficutly in reading/understanding a record.
It gives the occupation of Robert Fraser as a blacksmith then in brackets behind it there is the word 'pennal'.
Can any one give me a clue as to it's meaning?

Hi Joan

Can you post the 1901 image so that I and others can have a look, or give the full reference for the 1901 census entry?...............

It's 47 years old, not 49 :!:

And the word in brackets is "general" :!:

David

PS see "Labourer general" for James HERON a few lines below .............

PPS ... much later ..... and the "g" in Robert's own place of birth, - Blairgowrie !

Hi Joan

Nae problem at a' ....... I recently "saw" March as a place name on an early birth register entry  , and, a few months ago, could not for the life of me make out the word/letters after a person's name in their dedication in a book gifted to someone...... a friend took one look at it and immediately "saw" the completely obvious "M.A." which I should have seen in the first place, as the writer was the moderator of the presbyterian kirk in NZ!!
