Hello could someone help please?
I know that my paternal grandmother had a criminal record ,and it is this that I need help with
she was born Bridget Miller in 1892 she married twice both husbands having the same surname of Park her 2nd husband Robert died 1941 =Bridget died 1967
so I gather that she was known for her life of crime ,which was being a thief etc
However she was also mentioned in a murder charge ,=she hung around with the murderer
we don`t think that she was a criminal before her husbands death so it`s safe to say that the time span must be 1942=1965
and thats all we know
so can I have some help with her criminal career please
thank you
Bridget Miller//park

Hello Biz,
In what town or city in this wide world were these crimes allegedly happening?
At the tail end of a murder report in the Glasgow Herald - Apr 2, 1946, there’s mention of a Bridget King or Park age 53? being involved in resetting (receiving stolen property).
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Di ... %2C5005522
Also see the previous days report - Apr 1, 1946.
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=M0 ... %2C4956316
The resetting charges were dropped.
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=N0 ... %2C5230382
(The 15 year old boy was sent to a Mental Institution and the 20 year old was hung. The James Caldwell on the resetting charge was the father of the young fellow who was hung.))
Is that the one you’re after?
Hope it is,
All the best,
Alan

The trial of John Caldwell was held at the High Court on 25th June 1946. The case files are held at NAS but are closed for 85 years although there is an open file giving names of visitors.biz wrote:Hello

Hello Annette
What a voyage of discovery I have been on
John Caldwell who was hung in Barlinnie, the son of James
James was the on/off lover and accomplice to Bridget Park/King at the time both were living Fielden St Glasgow,John and the 15 yr old boy (dont know his name) were stealing for Bridget and her son Francis Park ,Bridget would then sell items through the Barras,Francis was best mates with James(and at the time of the murder Bridget ,James,Francis,John and the 15 yr old were all arrested)
I have tracked James through the Glasgow Herald/Scotsman right up till his execution notice :
I did not know that there was a visitors list and would love to know who was on it but I live 400 miles away =so no chance there
thank you
**********BUT******************
during this discovery I have also found out that Bridget King was kidnapped the following is also taken from the Scotsman
May 18 1898
Thomas Walsh ,aged 32 from 9 Stirling St Glasgow was remiited to Sherriff`s Court, with taking Bridget King ,aged 5 daughter of Hugh King of 251 High St Glasgow ,child wa staken from the custody of a woman neighbour who had taken it out for a walk.
Welsh was traced to Paisley and then to Johnstone where he was arrested with the child
I can not find anything else so could some one please help with that
(Bridget was born illigitamate according to her birth cert and we are wondering if there is a connection between Bridget and Thomas Walsh
Bridget`s mum was Margaret Miller and she married Hugh King

Hello Biz,
If there was ever a follow-up to the child-stealing story it has made a good job of hiding itself.
Gladstone died on the following day and the Glasgow Herald was packed with stories about him. Perhaps there wasn’t any room for Sheriff Court news.
Have you read “Ghosts of Barlinnie”?
http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-Barlinnie- ... B007HL1CSE
Also “Glasgow’s Black Heart ……..”
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=GTq ... 22&f=false
The name of the 15 year old was probably suppressed by the court, but perhaps a relative of the soldier.
All the best,
Alan

Hello
Thank you for getting in touch
I have today contacted the Mitchell library who in turn have put me in touch with a researcher at Glasgowlife
I too noticed that th epaper was full of Gladstone but perhaps the researcher may be able to tell me the out come of the trial at the very least
**the Ghosts of Barliinie ,I have just ordered an dhas for the other I will look it up
the 15 yr old boy was referred to by my Uncle by a nickname only ,however I do not recall mention of either John Caldwell or the 15 yr old has any relation to us (my grandmother was Bridget Park/King
Thank You
