The Disruption

Post by swontgirl » Wed Jan 01, 2014 5:15 pm

I have read many articles on the disruption in the Presbyterian church that mention 7 or 9(can't remember off the top of my head) parishes in Aberdeenshire that were initially involved but I have never found which parishes these were. Does anyone know the exact parishes?

Hi swontgirl,

The following webpage refers to the seven ministers of Strathbogie who were suspended.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disruption_of_1843

See also:
http://www.newble.co.uk/chalmers/intrusion.html

And:
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Fw0v ... ie&f=false

The Presbytery of Strathbogie was made up of the following parishes (in the counties of Elgin, Banff and Aberdeen):
  • Bellie
  • Botriphnie
  • Cairnie
  • Gartly
  • Glass
  • Grange
  • Huntly
  • Keith
  • Marnoch
  • Mortlach
  • Rhynie
  • Rothiemay
I don't know which of these parishes had the ministers that were suspended.

All the best,

AndrewP
