Would someone please tell me what information is contaned in a Commissariot? In the image below, is the date: 1) date of the will, 2) date of death or 3) date probate is granted after death? Thanks!

That is very interesting, I've never come across these volumes before.
Unfortunately I can't answer your question. I did have a look [vis google] at other volumes and went to the very start - but there is no notes to say what the date would refer to.
Indeed one example shows 2 dates ?

- a little bit of further digging - in the Glasgow version gives a note at the front:

In Scottish law we don't have Probate - the term used is Confirmation [it gets a bit confusing when you have to confirm that the Confirmation has been confirmed!]NOTE.
Where a date is given in brackets, it is the actual date of the confirmation ; the other date indicates the place in the Record where it will be found out of its order.

Thanks for your kind help Wilma. I've also posed my question to Scottish Record Society so I will report back if any other information is discovered.
