Death Crosscheck Problem on SP.....

Post by nelmit » Sun Jan 08, 2006 3:23 pm

Hello All,

I've been searching SP for the death of Jane Smith
Tracing her and her husband John has been easier than you would think.

Anyway I searched for J*, Jane etc + Smith and permutations of her maiden name Averill. No results no matter what I tried.

This morning I tried just J* Smith (no Maiden name) with a rough age and date guide in Dumfries. There she was in 1875.

I then tried the exact info given (Jane Smith/Averill) and got no results :? :-s

Yes I will send a contact form.

Now what's bothering me is I have been unable to find the death of her grandaughter Mary Jane Smith born 1881 in Dumfries who married Thomas McMurtrie in 1900.
I was thinking she was still living in 1955 (and kicking myself for not looking at Park Circus the other day) but now I'm beginning to wonder if it has something to do with the search.

Hope this makes sense.

Annette M

Annette its not just you , the cross search isn't working . I submitted a contact form (Thursday I think) and was told it would hopefully be fixed next week.
The problem also means that the results of my previous searches using the 2 surnames have disappeared ...

Peculiar, but it's not just you, - I've just tried my own "marker" record and the cross check search doesn't come up............. also, there nae deid merrit SMITHs with other name BROWN..........

There's obviously a fault with the search...............

Thanks Sally,

You would have thought an announcement would have been in order.
At least I know it's not just me.

Annette M

Nelmit thanks for posting this - may be the answer to some of my fruitless searches over the last day or so.

I agree an announcement would have been nice.

Oh good, then it wasn't me then either.

Yesterday I searched for my great granny Margaret Logan ms. McCormick using McCorm*ck. I knew she had to have died in 1955 or '56 in Glasgow. Nothing came up, so I took away McCormick and got 11 Logan women, and yes, she was in this list! I couldn't understand why, but now I see it is some sort of problem at SP.

A bonus of doing the wider search however, was that her mother was listed right next to her.

Hello all,

SP are currently re-indexing the deaths and the site is running like a drugged slug. SP have put an informative note on the site (visible only after signing on) explaining what is happening.

During this update process, search results are variable and can change almost before your eyes, so be cautious.

Hello all,

news recently received (and I have tested the validity) is that the search for deaths using 2 surnames has been fixed. The problem was internal to the Oracle database that SP use.

SP will update the warning notice on the site's main page.

John

Hello All

Last night I was on SP and did some cross checking for deaths. Now SP say this problem is supposed to to fixed but I couldn't find anybody that I searched for. Just thought you would like to know that there is still a problem.

Hello Heather,

my e-mail from Richard arrived at 1141 GMT and it was "hot news" then, so it had only just been fixed.

I tested on McCurdie & Crosby and had 1 result (my great-grandmother), and then tried Robertson and Smith, which brought 154 (I think) results.

Heather, if you are having problems with known deaths then please supply details.

Regards,

John
