Stewart/Hunter Leadhills (Amended) .....

Post by pinkshoes » Mon Jan 30, 2006 8:58 pm

Hi all. I could do with a wee hand here if anyone has a spare minute :)

James Stewart born 1795 in Sanquhar, Dumfries died 1860 in Ormison, East Lothian, wife Ann Gordon. James' DC gives parents Charles Stewart (dec) and Janet Hunter. His brother Charles Stewart's DC in 1873 shows both Charles and Janet deceased. I've failed to find Janet's DC which seems to have been between 1860 and 1873 - unless of course the 1860 DC has missed the fact that Janet was also deceased. I think the informant would have known the info though and been capable of coherent thought

What I'm trying to establish is the parents of Charles Stewart and Janet Hunter. Charles and Janet's oldest son James was born in Sanquhar 1795, the rest in Leadhills - John 1797/9, Peter 1802, Thomas 1805, Charles 1810. There was a Charles Stewart born 1766 to James Stewart and Jean Mathieson in Wanlockhead. I'm not sure how to establish that this is the Charles who married Janet Hunter except the death cert's - hopefully the information on Janet will be right and she'll have gone on past 1855 but she's escaping me so far.

I'm researching this bit jointly with someone else working on the same Stewarts (a recent new member of TS) He has a very large tree and this info is a crucial part of it - the tree will potentially make an important contribution to the local history, so any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

Thanks for reading this, hope it's not too long.

Best wishes
Pinkshoes

Sorry just realised this may not be in the right place but it's a bit OPR and a bit Stat Recs - apologies to Mods

Edit by Pinkshoes : I have changed some of the information above - Charles of 1766 was born in Wanlockhead, not Leadhills as I'd posted. Thanks to Pretender for sorting me out, and apologies to any of you who have tried and failed to make sense of this.

Just trawling through the old posts to see how things are going. Hope you are enjoying/did enjoy your trip to Scotland this week - at least the weather is good despite it being Glasgow Fair weekend

Have you made any progress with this :?:
