Hi, i'm just starting out search my family tree and i'm trying to find my great... granfathers birth entry on scotlandspeople.gov.uk I've mangaged to find his death entry but no joy on the birth entry. I've been looking in the parish records, but can't find anything. I know this:-
-Parents: Archibald Haggart and Catherine Campbell
-Born:1847
-Died:19 Feb 1901, Parish of Logie, District of Stirling, Bridge of Allan
-Spouse: Ann Burns
-Sons: So far i know James and William Haggart
Using variations of this information nothing comes up for anything other than the death entry? Why would the parish records not show marriage or birth details? Is their somewhere else i can look and can i go to Stirling to browse records?
Thanks
Ross

Statutory civil registration didn't start until 1855. Before that you're into the parish registers. In the 1800s up to 1854 it's known that many births/baptisms weren't registered in the records of the Established Church of Scotland, particularly in the period 1843 to 1854 following the breakway and creation of the Free Kirk.
In your case worth checking on the NAS catalogues, - http://www.nas.gov.uk/catalogues/default.asp, - if there are any extant Free Kirk of other secession church records for Stirling around 1847.
The New Statisitical Account 1834/1845 at http://edina.ac.uk/statacc/ should give some indication of secession churches other than the Free Kirk.

Hi Ross,rossh wrote:Hi Annette,
Thanks that's amazing where did you get this info? I need to go out now but i'll tak a look closer tonight! Thanks very much

I got this from the 1881 census discs which can be bought for around £30.
Well worth it if you have a few British ancestors.
I found the children on the IGI by doing a parent search.
I'm going out myself now but in case you are unfamiliar with the IGI I'll be back later to explain or hopefully someone else will do it in my absence.

Hi Annette,
The disc sounds good where can you buy it? IGI, is this familysearch.org? I've had a look and did a parent search myself on familysearch think it was slightly different but got the details you gave me from scotlandspeople.gov.uk
going to keep looking for any details of marriage and birth entries for duncan haggart. Parents are Archibald Haggart and Catherine Campbell so hopefully i'll get something on them as well. Thanks again really helpful.

Outside of the U.K. visit http://www.lds.org.uk/genealogy/ordering.html and follow the link to Worldwide Distribution Centres
Note that, for the moment at least, the 1881 census for Scotland is not available on www.familysearch.org .

Hi David,
Thanks for that. I had a look on the archive site it's pretty difficult to get anything out of it. From the census details it looks as though Duncan Haggart was born in Kenmore. It looks as though this was a key area for the Haggart's so i'm looking for Duncan parents, Archibald Haggart and Catherine Campbell in this area. Do you have any suggestions? I've looked through census details and their are Archibald Haggarts, but i'm having problems finding the right one!
If i am going to look for any extant Free Kirk of other secession church records for Stirling around 1847. or in Kenmore how do i go about it?
Thanks again for all your help

David will be able to answer your question better than I.
There is no marriage between an Archibald Haggart and Catherine Campbell on the IGI.
Where did you find this information?
Regards,
