Montreal City Directory 1842-1992 .....

Post by SarahND » Wed May 24, 2006 12:36 am

The National Library and Archives of Québec has put up images of the Lovell City directories beginning in 1847.

I believe this site has not been listed yet on this forum (I think I heard about it through ReunionTalk). It is very helpful if you are trying to track someone in Montréal before and between census years.

The site is in French, but you don't need to understand the language to figure out how to access the images for the different years (numbers are numbers, however you pronounce them!)

Enjoy!

Hi Sarah

What a wonderful site! I am so glad that you posted this. I am from Montreal, and now I can look up where my parents lived before I was born. I can also look up street names and people that I had forgotten about.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
:D

Hi Sarah

Here I am to thank you again.

I had been looking for an aunt's marriage Cert. for at least 6 months, and couldn't find it. I was sure that my mother had said that they were married in Scotland, before they came to Canada. When I went looking through the Montreal Directory, I found what looked like my aunt's husband, but he was listed under a first name of George. I had only known him as Donald. Apparently, he was known by his second name. :? With this new information, I went back to SP, and VOILA, there was the marriage cert.
:D
Thanks again,

Sheila

Hi Sheila,
You made my day! :D It's always nice to know that a post has helped someone find something they would have otherwise missed. That's what this forum is all about!
