can anyone help with barwell family .....

all i no is that my gran was called ada bird not sure on spelling and she died in 1998 in halifax she was married to a harold barwell but dont to when they had children david,may,james and jack.my grandad was in the forces but dont no which and he died in halifax in 1977 if anyone can give me any information i would be really pleased

...and welcome to Talking Scot.

If you wish to trace your family backwards from your grandparents you will need to find, then send for their death certificates. As you already know the year and the area in which they died, it shouldn't take you too long to find them. Once you have the code for the deaths, e.g. Enfield 9d 544 you can then send for the certificate online from GRo or contact the local Register Office. I think English certs. are about £7 each.

You might also then try a search for their marriage.

Hi Ann,

As requested I tried looking for Ada's parents marriage but im sorry there are so many Birds's and Warners i couldnt find one with numbers that matched up in Halifax.

If you order Ada's Birth cert that should have her parents details on it hopefully. The cert will only cost £7 and they are quite quick, I ordered 6 two weeks ago and they were all here 8 days later.

I will see if i can find ada's brothers births tonight.

Just thought i would take another look for Ada's parents marriage and its possible i have found it

Hannah Warner Married James Bird in Halifax Oct-Dec 1911 9a 864

Walter Bird - Mother Warner - Halifax Apr-Jun 1913 9a 774

I have checked up to dec 1920 so far but cannot find any of the others you mentioned. I will take another look later tonight.

Well i managed to find Billy

William H Bird - Mothers maiden name Warner - Jul-Sept 1916 - 9A 609

I wasnt able to find Edna or Harold though. I did look right up to 1935 the time of Ada's marriage.

I think before you go ordering the marriage cert for Ada's parents you should order Ada's Birth cert this will confirm if I found the right parents for her or not. If not then i will take another look.

I just had a thought It could be that the mothers maiden name was registered as Bird (her married name) and not Warner. I will take another look later after the F1 race to see if i can find a Edna or Harold that could fit around the dates in Halifax.
