Can't find a marriage .....

I've uploaded the MC for Mary Dewars & Francis Smart. I'm having a woe with her parents; can't find them, married.

I can see a Francis SMART and a Barbara DEWAR on the register entry??......... but where's Elizabeth.

The age of the groom in 1855 means that you're well back into the period when far from all events were recorded in the OPRs, or just haven't survived.

There's an Andrew SMART/Mary DEWAR record but the places don't fit ........

I know the father's name is wrong but could this be Mary's birth?

Sorry for the original post containing incorrect info on what the image represented. So if I understand you correctly, Mary's parents did not marry but is the mother, from the freecen, Elizabeth Keith aged 44 or could it be Betty Keith aged 50? The not married point probably explains why I could not find a death on SP for the mother using the 2 surnames Dewars/Keith.

Hello Dennis,

Obviously I do not know if Elizabeth married Mary's father - she may just be using her maiden name for the census. A look at later censuses may help. As a guess I would go for Elizabeth age 44 as being Mary's mother.
I think her death should be easy to find on SP.

Yes I understand; I was just wondering about the presence of Betty on the census, as I hear that Betty is another name for Elizabeth. I'm off to SP to see when she passed away.
