Lobby Dosser .....
Can someone tell me where to find the statue of Lobby Dosser in Glasgow. I visited it once and have never been able to find it again. It does not seem to be well known outside Glasgow and I am needing a bit of credibility here. Friends think I am 'off my heid'[img][/img] Lorna B.

I had never heard of Lobey Dosser until I read about him on the former ScotlandsPeople Discussion Group. He seems to have come from the (Glasgow) Evening Times, which is not generally circulated in the east of Scotland.
All the best,

Let's get this right!, - it's Lobey Dosser, aka the Sheriff o' Calton Creek, as in........(appropriate music please) .......
My name is Lobey Dosser,
I'm the Sheriff o' Calton Creek.
My steed is El Fideldo
an' it only has two feet.
My enemy is Rank Bajin
an' I'll get him before I die,
an' then I will become a ghost rider in the sky.
Lobey on El Fideldo with a handcuffed Rank Bajin are indeed immortalised in the Woodlands Road statue, - see http://netsavvy.co.uk/lobey/author.htm
From http://www.answers.com/topic/bud-neill ............
The Lobey legend has proven to be Neill's enduring legacy to Glasgow, and has been marked by the erection of a bronze statue in Woodlands Road, Glasgow, across from The Halt Bar. The idea came up in that pub in 1989 during discussion between Calum MacKenzie and friends about Glasgow's 1990 European City of Culture status, and the statue was funded by donations following an appeal in the Glasgow Herald. Art students Tony Morrow and Nick Gillon designed and erected the statue in 1992 which features "Lobey" and "Rank Bajin" astride "El Fideldo". The statue has the unique distinction of being the world's only two-legged equestrian monument.
Some of the other characters are:
Chief Toffy Teeth
Chief Rubber Lugs
Rid Skwerr
Fairy Nuff - my favourite - a fairy who wears "tacketty boots" and speaks mostly in rhyme.
The Missionaries
The GI Bride (with babe in arms "Ned")
Whisk E Glorr
Adoda Glorr
Vinegar Hill
Honey Perz
Hart O'Gold
The Wifies
For full desrciptions, see http://netsavvy.co.uk/lobey/cast.htm

Calton Creek's somewhere in Arizona, populated exclusively by 魩gr鳠from Glasgow who must have followed Lobey when he left Glasgow, including Chief Toffy Teeth, the high heid yin of a tribe known as the Pawnee that appears to have originated somewhere in Govan. !!AndrewP wrote:Also to be found in The Glasgow Story website:

Re Lobby Dosser
Thank you to all who replied to my enquiry about Lobby Dosser. I look forward to finding him next time I am in Glasgow. My family history file will be a bit lighter with the account of my visit to the statue with my uncle many years ago. Unfortunately I had trouble accessing the site for a while and my computer took to crashing on my visits to TS so I have only caught up with the replies.
