Brickwall crumbling, I think.

Post by CathieL » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:12 pm

With fantastic help from Jack =D> I think my brick wall is crumbling. I am sure some of you will remember my efforts to figure out if Helen McQuade Connelly Kelly was my great grandmother. Her name and address were on the 1907 application for Poor Relief by my grandfather Patrick Connelly. She said Patrick was born in Co. Tyrone and his father was James Connelly (dec.)and that she herself was now the widow of Thomas Kelly. In the IGI there are three births to her and Thomas Kelly in Co. Monaghan, all daughters. I traced the marriage of the first daughter Ellen to a John Nugent in Glasgow, and then the births (and some deaths) of their children. I got the death certificates of Thomas Kelly and Helen Kelly but they both had as the informant a William Kelly, son. He managed to royally mess up the parents information on both certificates. I could not find the birth of this William Kelly anywhere but then on the 1901 census I found Ellen and John Nugent and living at the same address there was a William Connelly with his wife Mary , two children and his parents Thomas and Helen Kelly.
Jack found the death cert. of this William Connelly and his mother is named as Helen Kelly, previously Connelly, ms Mcquade. He also found the two marriages of William's daughter (she was a bigamist) and her death cert. The informant was Thomas Nugent, her cousin. So now I have connected the Connellys, The Kellys and the Nugents.
The problem is ( and isn't there always a problem), William Connelly's age. It is consistent on his marriage, the census and his death, but if it is true then he was born after the youngest Kelly daughter, I am really really hoping he lied.
Patrick Connelly born 1865
Ellen Kelly born 1867
Bridget Kelly born 1872,
Mary Kelly born 1874
William born 1878.
I don't know what to make of this but I am very happy about connecting them to each other and I am also very happy about winning a prize in the tombola because the prize was Jack's help. \:D/

Hi Cathie

I'm glad to hear that your prize was put to good use! Could we maybe auction Jack on a regular basis :?:
