I am singing..........

Post by Rach » Thu Dec 07, 2006 6:17 pm

[with apologies to the Sound of Music!]

"Some enchanted evening,
You will make a breakthrough,
You will make a breakthrough,
Across the world wide web,
You'll look at the site
And know right away,
This is the one who's turned your hair grey.
Now that you've found him
Put him in his place,
Now that you've found him
Put Him In His Place".

Sorry, I just had to celebrate a few weeks of successful research. Found Andrew McRaw under the names McRea and McRee thanks to Ancestry, have discovered a 2nd cousin through Rootsweb and a third cousin through G.R.
[Now I know that this hobby has really affected my sanity in more ways that one.]

I Like it Rach :!: :D

Maybe it should go in a more permanent forum.
It deserves to be kept for posterity :?

Anyone else agree?
The talent on this board is amazing

That's great news Rach, congratulations :!: =D>

Excellent lyrics, I think we should nominate it for the theme song for the site.

However, we'd have to attribute it to the 'sound of music' from Rogers and Hammerstein's 'South Pacific'.

Still a great song, anyway

Hi Rach
Great news!
...But I think you may be correct with the effect it has had on your sanity....That song is surely from South Pacific, not the Sound of Music!!!
Ach, who cares??!! [woohoo]

Best wishes
Lesley

My turn…. :-k

(Apologies to the late Andy Stewart)

There was a granny, my Scottish granny
Who lived in Mingulay, but wandered far away,
She played a blinder, ah canny find her.
Not on the census or I-G-I

Ah’ve just decided, she must have hide’d
In eighteen ninetywan, or had a caravan
She simply vanished, around ninetywan-ish
Ah wish she’d turn up in Milngavie.

Right…. Let’s spin the bottle and see who’s next

Looks like we're having an online Christmas concert. I'm not good at writing songs, so I'll just play the triangle in the band!

Hi Lesley,

It hit me not long after I had posted that it was South Pacific! I can only blame the excitement of all my finds, Christmas shopping and looking after a sick grandchild! That's enough to blow a retired persons sanity!
For some reason I couldn't get back onto TalkingScot to spare my blushes - kept getting some travel site, even through the link from Scotland's People.
Thanks for putting the record straight.

Just read Jim's song. Loved it. Made me laugh. [Didn't sing it though as grandchild asleep and don't want to give her nightmares!]

Just opened up a new folder called

"Ancestral Songs"

Keep these original ideas and verse coming

Could end up with the definitive [talkingscot] 'Genealogists Song Book'
