Opr Images.....

Post by ROY M » Mon Jan 29, 2007 1:13 am

Hi everybody, help please.
Is it me doing something wrong or is it happening to everybody.
Now the new Opr images are available I have downloaded approx. fifteen. I have always printed out the ones for my tree as hard copies and keep them all filed in folders.
The new Oprs when you are viewing them on SPs site the images look quite dark and if I print them out directly as I have always done with the statutory records, all I get is a black ( that is BLACK) sheet of paper. I have to save them to another program and then print them, but even then the image is very grey. I can improve the image by doctoring it in one of my imaging programs but this is a lot of work.
I think it is great that the images are now on line and don't want to sound ungrateful but is an email to SP the way to go.

Any help or comments please.
Aw the best and happy huntin'
Roy.

roy,

I don't know what your problem is but I save mine and they print fine.
Grey background and Black lettering but very legible.
One of the Techies on here will put you right.
I have windows XP but nothing else special
Hope you can fix it because I like to keep hard copies like you.

Hi Roy,

I would suspect something is wrong with your printer, or more likely its set up on your computer. The image should print as you see it, with a light tint to the paper colour. These images are not as black and white as the census and bmd certificates.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Wini and Andrew
I've tried altering the settings on computer/printer but it makes no difference. Could either of you try a direct print for me and see what you get. That is when viewing the image on SPs site click the print button while viewing to see what prints whithout saving it anywhere else first.

I would be most grateful.

PS-Sorry forgot to say all other images still print ok direct from viewing it's just the Oprs.

Roy

I can't print directly from the screen, so I have been saving and then printing with Office Printer manager.
I am an illiterate computer person, so all my efforts are trial and error but this works fine

Andrew or Mary and some others are excellent at solving computer problems.

Sorry Roy, I've never printed directly before but gave it a go to see what might be going wrong for you.

I simply can't duplicate your problem at all, no matter what settings I put on the printer. I even dug out an old printer to see if it would do it. Again, the printouts were all absolutely fine.

What kind of printer do you have?

I normally save the images and open them in a graphics program to adjust them anyway. Plus, cropping out the black surrounds saves on ink :D

Hi Roy
Like the others I print off a paper copy as well as save to the family tree programme. Mine (3 so far) have printed off actually better than the onscreen view. Clear, little background shading and better than some of the BDM records.
It sounds as though your printer programme has a filter switched on instead of a no-filter default position.
Even knowing the printer type wouldn't help as there are so many shades, flavours and varieties.
Try re-loading your printer programme.

Hi Wini, Mary, Andrew & Russell
Sorry for not getting back to you quicker but I've been experimenting.
My printer is a fairly new Lexmark.
What I've found is that I seem to have a problem with the viewer on the SP site. I have always used the ActiveX viewer for speed and have never had any problem. What I did today was tried using the Java and Direct Download viewers and I get a reasonable print, by printing direct from the viewed image on both. All 3 viewers have a good image when just looking at the pages but the ActiveX is the only one with a printing problem. I know there can be problems on certain setups using Active X as is explained on the SP site.
I'll just keep saving them to another program and printing them from there as I like the speed of ActiveX.

Many thanks for your help.

Roy.

Roy,
Thanks for bringing this up as I have just had the same experience - a black copy. As you say, saving it is the answer. I then print it using my windows and fax viewer and get a fantastically clear copy.

Hi Rae
Roy here can you let me know if your printer is a Lexmark. Tony on another post is having the same problem and he has a Lexmark. I have also now tried my old Canon portable printer I use for my laptop on my main computer and I'm getting a print using the ActiveX viewer. I'm going to contact Lexmarks techie department.
Hope to hear from you soon.
