Edward was christened in 1828 in Barnetby Le Wold Lincoln and married in 1848 i can find his wife & child in the 1851 census they are in the Glanford Brigg poor house
(of which no records survive) but Edward is hiding somewhere .I have spent hours looking for him under every combination i can think of without success.

Hi Maggie
I don't like to be brutal...but is there any chance he may have died? If his wife and child were in the poorhouse, I'd be half expecting the worst, but perhaps you know he was still alive at a later date?
Later: Whoops sorry - just read your post properly!!
He was still around in 1861.....
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Maggie
If I have the right person in 1861 - he has a different wife to 1851 - but son William in 1851, appears to be with father and new wife in 1861.
Looking at all the possibles (assuming the Heath is correctly transcribed - a big ask) your Edward Heath in 1861 is living in Middlesborough Yorkshire and in 1851 there is only one Edward Heath in Yorkshire - at Yarm - correct age, similar occupation but says he is Unmarried & born in Yorkshire. Middlesborough and Yarm are about 7 miles apart. I cannot find this Edward in 1861.
Is it possible Edward left the family looking for work? and his wife died before he came back to collect them? I intially thought he may not have married the first wife, but the marriage and birth of William are relatively easy to find on FreeBDM. The name is not very common - especially in Lincolnshire.
Like yourself, I cannot find anyone in 1851, who says born in Lincolnshire, fitting the situation.
Trish

Hello Lesley & Trish
thankyou for replying to my message
Trish yes that is him in the 1861 with 2nd wife and son William (he had 4 wives so must have liked wedding cake
)
I think you have cracked it Trish
finding him in Yarm as a lodger Thankyou .It was just one of those little niggles that he was being elusive to me .I think you are spot on with your theory that he left his wife & child to seek work and thankfully
at least he went back to collect William from the workhouse .
kind regards
maggie
