In 1900 my wifes grandfather John Grant McPherson married a Mary Ann (Polly) Pritt at the High St Chapel,Lancaster. Could anyone tell me anything about this lady.Ive had no luck so far in my searches.

In 1901 John G and Mary A are still in Lancaster at Gordon Villas. John is a market Gardener aged 58, born Scotland and Mary A is aged 38 and born in Barrow in Lancashire. They have a 2 month old daughter Clara born in Lancaster.

Looking for a Mary A Pritt born around the right time in Barrow in the 1871 Census is not productive but there are a couple of options:

Elizabeth Pritt Wife Mar 27 Carter's Wife Cumberland Whitbeck
Mary A Pritt Daur Unm 6 Scholar Cumberland Bootle

In Droylesden Lancs there is another Mary Ann aged 9 born Droylesden the daughter of Charles a Flax Dresser and Rebecca.

I can't find either of these in 1881 but in 1891 I think that the first one is a servant aged 25 in Ashton, Preston, Lancs giving her age as 25 and her place of birth correctly.

I still think the first one is yours but have you got the marriage certificate of John G and Mary Ann. It is the September Quarter of 1900 in Lancaster ref 8e 1494. This will tell you the name of her father and until you get this any census guesses are just that, mere speculation.

Just to complicate matters, given their ages she could have been married before and Pritt could be her married name. So need the marriage entry if you don't have that already.
