Meeting a Cousin

Post by Pandabean » Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:28 am

Well on Monday of last week, I travelled down to Fife to meet a cousin that I had never met before. I only sent him a letter back in April and immediately got a reply by phone. We passed information between us for a while and decided on coming down to visit. It was a real nice afternoon, he talked about his mother (my great great aunt) and his aunt. I showed him all the stuff I had on the family, he was impressed and happy that i contacted him and learned quite a bit. Hopefully I will be able to go back down in the summer and head over to the place where my Great Great Grandparents used to live. He even passed on the medals of William and John Greenlees, well one from each brother. Seems the medals were split between the sisters, with my cousin's aunt getting the other two medals plus the death pennies.

So I am happy that we met and I am glad I sent that letter a while back. :D

That's brilliant Andy

It's good that you got on quite well.
Now for reminiscinence time - over a pint or a coffee. Remember and take a notebook so you can jot down all the wee snippets of family lore that you would never find in a record or on-line. You should be able to do that openly now you have shown how committed you are to extending the family knowledge.

I envisage some fascinating bits of info being posted here after the summer :D

Thanks Russell,

I have a good memory when it comes to these things but when it comes to exams my memory takes a holiday. Also most of what we talked about was in the emails as well. Hopefully if I get accepted into Heriot Watt to do my masters I will only be over the water really. :D

H i Andy,
I am glad it went well. Doesnt it give you a good feeling that all the hard work paid off.
This year I had the same good luck with cousins in Glasgow that didnt know about my Dad (adopted at birth), but they have stayed a week with us and we went to Glasgow and stayed a week with then, got some great photos of my dads brother, and a wonderful video of my uncle when he was alive.
Hope your contact will last as mine has, thank god for telephones and emails.

Anne. :D
