Re: SP Credits

Since the previous posts were made, there has been a change of policy at SP. I have a fair few unused credits which were due to expire tomorrow and went to the site to check that I could reactivate them at any time, but discovered that this is no longer the case. The current T&Cs (16 March 2021) say...

Re: James Edwards Knowles born 1878 - Eckington, Derbyshire

In England you'd only be able to find a bridegroom's father's name by ordering a marriage certificate; mothers' names aren't recorded in England. However, by comparing the information in the civil registration indexes (at FindMyPast, or FreeBMD, which I used) and the 1901 and 1911 censuses you can, ...

Re: Researcher - Italy

Have you looked at the Anglo-Italian FHS - https://anglo-italianfhs.org.uk/ Thanks Arthur, I did see that site - it said they mainly concentrated on Italians to the UK - & I'm looking for the ancestors of someone who came to Australia - but they may have researchers - I hadn't thought to check that...

Re: Researcher - Italy

Have you looked at the Anglo-Italian FHS - https://anglo-italianfhs.org.uk/ I only know of them through seeing their name in listings of societies, and I don't know how much they'd be able to help if your friend went directly from Italy to Australia, but they might nevertheless be able to offer some...

Re: Lydia Wright born Dronfield Derbyshire born 1876 -

A good starting point would be FreeBMD, which allows you to include an approximate year of birth in your search. In the period 1911-1970 there are just 5 Lydia Clarkes and 11 John T's. Do any of the places mentioned ring a bell, or do any places in the Lydia list match the John T list? For example, ...

Re: Henry & Sarah Wright - Creswell, Derbyshire

I don't think Derby City Council will be able to help on this occasion, as (a) it's not in their area, and (b) it's a churchyard, not a council cemetery. Sometimes burial registers include a reference to the burial plot, but these ones don't. (They're available at Ancestry, and I've checked.) A few ...

Re: cemetery records - maps

Might it be some code that the cemetery use to record information about what's in the plot, such as Headstone, Kerb, Vase, Statue? Or a note about its condition, eg headstone keeling very slightly? If the cemetery provided you with the plan, they are probably the people who made the handwritten note...

Re: PARENTS OF ROSALIE KIRKHAM MARRIED NAME WRIGHT

It depends on whether you like to buy every possible certificate, but if it was me, I think I might now feel there was reasonable evidence without them. The 1939 register puts Doris Craig in Bakewell, and FreeBMD indicates that she was almost certainly née Kirkham. There's another Kirkham with them,...

Re: PARENTS OF ROSALIE KIRKHAM MARRIED NAME WRIGHT

I noticed from FreeBMD that there was one Craig child with mmn Kirkham in Manchester North, the district where James Craig married Doris Kirkham, then another in Bakewell. I also looked for all BMD events with the surname Kirkham in Bakewell from 1925 onwards, and there were quite a lot. Some probab...

Re: PARENTS OF ROSALIE KIRKHAM MARRIED NAME WRIGHT

Bingo! You might want to get some documentation to back it up, and confirm my findings for yourself, but I think you've cracked it. =D> From FreeBMD: Doris Kirkham married James Craig in 1931. The 1939 register has a James and Doris Craig in Bakewell, with Doris's date of birth consistent with the o...
