Re: Early change to Scotland death registration format

I can understand the comment about the long list of children born of the deceased. See here such information from the death certificate of my g-g-g-g-grandfather, Joseph Downs in 1855 in Slamannan, listing his widow and 14 children (13 surviving and 1 deceased at that time). JD_death_1855.JPG All th...

Re: 1921 CENSUS

The 2021 census in Scotland was also delayed - by a year and is planned to take place in March 2022 due to Covid-19. The census took place on its planned 2021 date in England, Wales and (I think) Northern Ireland. For genealogists, this could give two anomalous conditions compared to other censuses,...

Re: 1921 Census

In SP's defence, they (NRS - the National Records of Scotland) had possibly planned a release around now before Covid came along. For the duration of Covid, they will have had many of their staff furloughed or working from home. This staff working, whether at home or in the office have had much of t...

Re: 1921 Census

That's disappointing. The 100 year closure period finishes in the next few days. I was expecting to have a whole new lot of information to rummage around in. Alas we will all have to wait.

All the best,

Re: Can anyone decipher this name?

Hi RAAAMMY,

It could be "Frederick", but I cannot say that with 100% certainty.

Re: searching for Archie McFarlane

You set my curiosity going... I took a look at the birth certificate, and my interpretation of the birthplace is: Coto, Laighwood, Clunie. On looking at the maps of the time, I have a 'good' suggestion for it: Cothole, which is close to Old Laighwood, and near to Laighwood, all at the west end of Cl...

Re: Small Request for anyone that might be visiting SP Centre

Hi Heather, The ScotlandsPeople Centre remains closed to the general public. It opens to commercial researchers for half-day sessions only from tomorrow, and is limited to only 9 visitors in the search room during each session. There is no date set yet for re-opening to the general public for their ...

Re: Wife's maiden name on headstone

I don't think I would be bold enough to say that it proves that she was Scottish. She partook in a Scottish Presbyterian Church marriage in Tasmania. She married a Scotsman. There are a few Mary Bogues [and many more by the spelling 'Boag'] born in an 'appropriate' time frame who were baptised in Sc...

Re: Death record unfound

Did they show up with all family members in the 1911 census? If you don't have an answer before late June 2021, then we should have the 1921 census available to us to look up; same question for the 1921 census when that is available. The 1921 census took place overnight 19th-20th June; I would like ...
