Re: Irish Census 1851

Hi,
perhaps you could give us where you found the result, looking at the original often helps figure things out.

I can't find a Jane Dunbar on the 1851 census at the National Archives of Ireland http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ .
Did you get it somewhere else?

Re: Foundling / Exposed Child 1880's Scotland

That is a very good place look for such a thing. However they aren't indexed for easy searching, and it can be a slow process. For those areas I think you'd have to look at the Glasgow City Presbytery records and the Kirk session for St John's, St Mungo's , Barony, and Park. :https://www.scotlandspe...

Re: Foundling / Exposed Child 1880's Scotland

Out of curiosity I searched the OPR births on SP. I entered * as the surname and Foundling as the parents name There were a few returns: 1 where the Father's surname was Foundling 1 whose surname was the registration district and Foundling Child as parentage most of the rest bear the adoptee's surna...

Re: Elizabeth Mooney and family (missing records)

Hi, thanks for your response. 1. Elizabeth Mooney married Thomas Grieve in Bellshill, Lanarkshire in 1897. 2 I have found both Elizabeth and John in the 1891 census only recently actually. They were not living together. Elizabeth was living as a servant in Bellshill, Lanark. John was living with hi...

Re: Elizabeth Mooney and family (missing records)

Hi Andy, I've been mulling this one over, and sadly not coming up with any answers - only further questions. 1. Who did she marry in 1897? and where 2. Have you found her and/or John from the orphanage in the 1891 census? 3. What significance is the year 1895 that you mention ? " discovered her pare...

Re: George Sutherland Mackay (Born 26 April 1917 Aberdeen)

I'm afraid I'm not having any joy either. George Sutherland MacKay is not an uncommon name - some famous some infamous! but none of the notable match in age. As he would have been of military call-up age, in 1939 he could be almost anywhere! FindMypast does have 1 serviceman of the correct age: Firs...

Re: Robert Robertson - Alexander Robertson

A point to bear in mind with Death records - the information is only as good as the person giving it, as the subject can no longer provide it. A child often may not know a grandmother's maiden name for instance. Ages too can be a out as they weren't considered so important back then. Sometimes, you ...

Re: Robert Robertson - Alexander Robertson

[TS_welcome] You have given us a very clear post of the information that you have gleaned already. The time period you are looking at gets a bit fuzzy betimes, as it spans the change between Old Parish Records [OPR] and Statutory Records and the early Census records. Do you have the death of Ann Rob...

Scotland's people have just announced a new set of records on-line. Lightkeeper registers (Lighthouses) Search the registers of lightkeepers employed by the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses (Northern Lighthouse Board) between 1837 and 1921. The lightkeepers registers have two parts. The first p...
