Unclear informant's name.

Post by billymac » Mon Dec 23, 2024 10:53 pm

When I first looked at the informant's name I thought I saw "Owen". The more I look at it the more I doubt what I see. I'd appreciate any thoughts members may have.

I agree with you: I think it’s Owen too.

On looking at the deaths on ScotlandsPeople, I don't see an Owen (or similar) McEnteer / McIntyre or similar in an appropriate timeframe / age. One possibility with names like McEnteer and mother's maiden surname Breslin is that he lived and died in Ireland or elsewhere.

All the best,

Thanks Andrew. I took much that same path as well. Looked for a death Mc*nt* with mother's name Bres* and that particular death was the only one that fitted. Either the brother or the registrar made an error with the wife's name ---- it was Cathrine not Mary. I have Patrick's 1855 Scotland marriage (with some excellent information) and Patrick and his wife in the 1861 census ---- they did not seem to have children at that date. No sign of a brother and the wife Catherine seems to vanish as well following her husband's death ---- couldn't find her on the 1871 census. You may be right about them returning to Ireland.
